Second Gentleman Doug Emhoff is sounding off on Andy Samberg’s impression of him on Saturday Night Live.
Emhoff was a guest on The Jennifer Hudson Show on Tuesday, where he was asked about Saturday’s cameo-filled SNL cold open, in which Samberg surprised as Emhoff.
“I’ve been watching that show my whole life, and to think that somebody’s playing me…” he said. “It’s so—wow.”
The sketch has already drawn upwards of 8.5 million views on YouTube. After reflecting generally on SNL, Emhoff addressed the real question on everyone’s mind: What did he think of the impression?
“Andy Samberg did a good job,” Emhoff admitted to Hudson. “I approve.”
The Second Gentleman even cited some specific elements of Samberg’s impression as personal highlights. “I loved the ‘Second Gentlemensch’ line,” Emhoff noted. He also shouted out Samberg’s attempt at dancing the Dougie, throwing just a little shade in the process. “I don’t know what that move was,” he noted, “but it was pretty good.”
Samberg’s impression wasn’t the first time Emhoff was portrayed on Saturday Night Live. In 2021, former cast member Martin Short played the role in yet another surprise cameo opposite Maya Rudolph‘s Kamala Harris.
Emhoff had some kind words for Rudolph’s portrayal of his wife, too. “She’s so good as Kamala,” he said. “She did a really good job.”
All in all, it sounds like Emhoff is taking the parodies in stride—which is good news, because it’s certainly not the last one SNL is planning.
