Dakota Johnson Makes Surprise SNL Appearance as Lily Allen’s ‘Madeline’

Dakota Johnson popped up announced on Saturday Night Live tonight, joining Lily Allen as she performed her song “Madeline.”

Initially seen only in silhouette, Johnson performed the song’s two spoken-word sections, portraying the person at the center of the lyrics. Her involvement was a surprise, with no introduction before or during the performance.

“Madeline” appears on Allen’s album West End Girl, a project widely understood to be inspired by the dissolution of her relationship with actor David Harbour. In the song, Allen confronts her partner’s mistress, detailing an arrangement meant to remain discreet—“Be discreet and don’t be blatant… It had to be with strangers. But you’re not a stranger, Madeline.”

At the song’s conclusion, Johnson emerged from behind a curtain, walked up to Allen, and embraced her, punctuating the performance with a kiss on the cheek that drew a strong reaction from the Studio 8H audience.

The appearance marked Johnson’s first time back on SNL since hosting the show for the second time in January 2024.
