Jimmy Fallon has added another writer-performer to his NBC show’s ranks.
Comedian Nick Mestad has joined The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon as a staff writer, LateNighter has confirmed.
Mestad previously appeared on Fallon’s show in June 2022 for a bit of Stranger Things fun. Imagining that the Netflix megahit’s humanoid villain Vecna was avoiding being typecast by showcasing his talents, Fallon threw to a series of TikToks featuring Vecna performing various dance trends and challenges. (Said TikTok account continued to roll out videos through 2022, even dropping an original short with Megan Thee Stallion.)
Mestad’s addition comes at the perfect time: The real face behind Vecna, actor Jamie Campbell Bower, guests on The Tonight Show this Tuesday, January 6.
Outside of the Upside Down, Mestad has been seen on the Tina Fey-produced Girls5Eva and Nathan Fielder’s The Rehearsal. He also lent his voice to the Audible podcast Trust Fall, produced by Lorne Michaels’ Broadway Video.
Mestad is a member of the Upright Citizens Brigade’s Betty team, and was named one of Just For Laughs’ New Faces of Comedy in 2022. (That class also included several future SNL figures: cast members Emil Wakim and Marcello Hernández, and writers Ceara Jane O’Sullivan and KC Shornima.)

In November, the NBC talker added Rose Kelso to the team as a sketch writer, joining writer-performers such as Brooks Allison and Dion Flynn. She went on to make several on-air appearances in her first week.
The Tonight Show returns from the holiday break tonight with guests Sadie Sink (Stranger Things) and Josh Charles (Fox’s Best Medicine), plus a musical performance by AJR.
