Hot off sustaining sick burns as part of Saturday Night Live‘s latest “Weekend Update” joke swap, Colin Jost and his taste buds braved Hot Ones and its “Wings of Death.”
“It seems like people enjoy watching me suffer,” Jost said in the announcement video released earlier in the week, “so… check it out!”

At the seven-minute mark, Jost recalls a Season 43 SNL pre-tape in which he took a beating from no less than boss man Lorne Michaels.
After getting socked in the face by Kyle Mooney, Beck Bennett, and host Tiffany Haddish, “Lorne says, ‘Get out of my way I’ll finish him off,'” Jost recalls. “And he’s, like, going for it and everyone’s laughing…. And I’m like it’s pretty nuts that my boss is punching me and everyone’s just cheering him on.”
(In Michaels’ defense, it cannot go without mention that Jost’s 2000 memoir is titled A Very Punchable Face.)
Later, at the 24-minute mark, host Sean Evans prompts Jost to attempt impressions of Michaels, “Weekend Update” co-anchor Michael Che, and then castmate Mikey Day.
In Hot Ones, the flagship series of the ever-growing First We Feast brand, for every question that the celebrity guest fields from Evans, they must join him in partaking a progressively spicy chicken wings.
Back in December, SNL‘s Sarah Sherman and Chloe Fineman battled Mikey Day and James Austin Johnson a game of “Wing Pong” (one of Hot Ones‘ many offshoots), Bowen Yang in November 2024 waged war with the wings whilst revealing how be bungled his interview with Lorne Michaels, and Jost’s “Weekend Update” co-anchor Michael Che was Hot Ones‘ first-ever “Fish Sticks of Death” sampler in July 2021. (“I just don’t want to eat chicken on-camera,” he explained.)
SNL alums such as Kate McKinnon, Will Ferrell, and Jason Sudeikis have also subjected their taste buds to the wings boasting increasingly scary Scoville scale ratings.
Additionally, Jost’s wife, Scarlett Johansson, was a Hot Ones guest in April 2019.
