Bad Bunny is set to deliver a rare one-two late-night punch this Tuesday night when the musician and actor will guest on not just two different late-night shows, but on two competing networks.
The double-dip comes as the star promotes two separate projects. On July 4, he released his latest single, “NUEVAYoL,” from the solo record he dropped earlier this year, Debí Tirar Más Fotos. He also stars as Adam Sandler’s caddy in the highly anticipated sequel to Happy Gilmore, set to premiere July 25.
Bad Bunny will first appear tomorrow on CBS’ The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, where he’s slated to be the 11:35pm program’s lead-off guest. After that, Bad Bunny fans will want to flip the channel to NBC’s Late Night with Seth Meyers, where he’ll once again be the top-billed guest—this time on NBC’s 12:37am talker, appearing alongside Happy Gilmore himself, Adam Sandler.
It’s a far cry from the late-night rules of decades past, when guests of Johnny Carson and Jay Leno were often expected to avoid competing programs in the days or even weeks surrounding their appearance on The Tonight Show.
Of course, the late-night landscape isn’t what it used to be (as if we needed reminding after the past few days). Competition for linear TV eyeballs is less fierce, with much of the audience now catching segments online in the days that follow.
Beyond the economics, relations between today’s hosts are famously friendly—another shift late-night fans were reminded of when hosts spoke out last week to console and defend Colbert.
As for how Bad Bunny will pull off the physical feat of appearing on two shows in one night—he won’t. Late Night tapes its Tuesday night episodes on Mondays, meaning the two appearances will actually be taped about 24 hours apart.
And while showing up on two late-night shows in one night is unusual, it’s not without precedent. In 2019, Will Ferrell set a record for most talk show appearances in a single night when he appeared in character as Ron Burgundy on a whopping six different programs—including Colbert and Meyers.
