After Midnight i in making the most of its final four weeks on the air, airing a series of themed shows and welcoming back some of its favorite guests before signing off in mid-June.
The past week featured a record three themed episodes: one featuring cast members from the new Apple TV+ series Goverment Cheese, and another with three stars from the CBS hit Ghosts.
But it was a surprise appearance from Anna Kendrick on Wednesday night’s show—another themed episode–that takes the prize as our late night clip of the week, largely because it’s emblematic of the kind of quirky late-night fun we’ll be missing when After Midnight is no more.
Kendrick’s drop-in came during an episode that saw Taylor Tomlinson host three panelists associated with the new film Another Simple Favor: actors Alex Newell and Taylor Ortega, and director Paul Feig. Kendrick stars in the mystery comedy-thriller sequel, which was released on Amazon Prime Video last week.
Surprising the audience more than halfway through the show, Kendrick formed the centerpiece of a game the show dubbed “Does Anna Kendrick Have a Knife?”
The rules were simple: Kendrick emerged with her hands behind her back, and the panelists had to guess whether or not she was holding a knife. Before locking in their answer, each panelist was given the chance to ask Kendrick any question they wanted (as long as it wasn’t about knives), prompting them to test out some clever tactics.
