After Midnight Introduces First-Ever Tournament Week

Apparently it’s never too late to stop tinkering. After Midnight is mixing things up this week, welcoming back a series of favorite panelists for its Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday episodes, with the winners of each episode set to face off on Thursday.

Dubbed “After Midnight Mania,” the March Madness-inspired format will “crown the ultimate champion” from a lineup of nine all-star panelists, CBS says.

All week long, Taylor Tomlinson will welcome returning guests to the show. On Monday, Maria Bamford, Lisa Gilroy, and Bob the Drag Queen will compete for a spot on the Thursday championship episode. Tuesday’s bracket will consist of Vinny Thomas, Paul F. Tompkins, and Aparna Nancherla. Sasheer Zamata, Greta Titelman, and Jonah Ray are Wednesday’s panelists.

One panelist from each of those trios will return to After Midnight Thursday night in hopes of being crowned the ultimate champion.

Per CBS, “the tournament will also feature some familiar faces from CBS Sports’ college basketball coverage throughout the week.”

As we’ve reported, After Midnight is nearing the end of its run on CBS. The network announced late last week that the show will not be returning for a third season. The network attributed the decision to Taylor Tomlinson choosing to leave the show at the end of Season 2 to focus full time on her standup.

Concurrent with After Midnight‘s cancellation, CBS announced that it no longer intends to produce new programming for its 12:35am time slot.

After Midnight will air new episodes through June before it bows out for good. “After Midnight Mania” kicks of Monday night.

    Dear Taylor Tomlinson,

I am sorry to hear that After Midnight has been cancelled due to your resignation! Why, why, why??? Your hosting of AM w/TT was terrific! I often laughed out loud and giggled along with you helplessly. The only possible positive outcome of this horrid news is that I will no longer be tempted to stay up past 12:35 am. Though the additional laughter after Colbert will be missed!

Good luck Ms. T. I hope to see your stand up show one day in Philadelphia!
