ABC Oscars Boss Says He’d Sign ‘Lifetime’ Hosting Contract With Jimmy Kimmel

Turns out LateNighter’s Bill Carter isn’t the only one who thought Jimmy Kimmel’s fourth go at The Oscars Sunday night was a success.

In an interview with Variety Monday, ABC’s executive vice president of Unscripted and Alternative Entertainment Rob Mills sang Kimmel’s praises, saying he planned to “beg” the late-night host to host again next year.

But that’s not all. “If he wants to sign a lifetime contract, I would love that, Mills added. “Jimmy has just got this down. He’s got the playbook perfected.”

Given that Kimmel says he’s considering retiring from hosting his own show when his current contract ends, he’s not likely to sign anything anytime soon.

Asked on Monday whether she thought they’d return next year, Kimmel’s wife and producing partner Molly McNearney told Variety, “I would obviously be honored to do it. But I honestly don’t know. I feel like we’ve done a great job. We had four good ones and maybe let someone else try it now.”

Kimmel is back at it tonight, hosting a new edition of Jimmy Kimmel Live! with guests Dwayne Johnson and Justin Timberlake.
