David S. Pumpkins Returns to SNL, Only to Be Interrupted by Trump—Watch

What Saturday Night Live giveth, Donald Trump taketh away.

Tom Hanks and Bobby Moynihan returned to SNL Saturday night for what initially appeared to be a new David S. Pumpkins sketch—only for James Austin Johnson’s Donald Trump to interrupt it midstream.

The cold open began as a Halloween ride led by Kenan Thompson, with a pair of guests encountering a series of gruesome characters before the doors opened on Hanks’ pumpkin-suited oddball, flanked once again by dancing skeletons Mikey Day and Moynihan.

“Any questions?” Pumpkins asked after the trio performed their familiar dance.

There were.

“Who are you?”

“I’m David Pumpkins, man!”

“And David Pumpkins is?”

“A Halloween guy.”

When the riders finally asked why Pumpkins was on the ride, Hanks promised an answer in “two words.”

“Midterms!” Johnson’s Trump interjected.

“Boo! It’s me, Donald Trump, your one true god,” he said, announcing that he was “pausing [an] SNL skit yet again.”

Trump then spoiled the sketch himself: “Are you sad you don’t get to see your third David Pumpkins scene? I’ll save you four minutes. He keeps popping up and confusing the people on the ride, the end.”

As Johnson continued with the show’s cold open, Hanks, Moynihan, Day, and the others remained frozen behind him.

“They have to stay there the whole time,” Trump observed.

“I don’t,” Thompson shot back, walking offstage.

After Trump thanked him for a supposed donation, Thompson fired back: “Yeah, you wish, bitch.”

Hanks eventually got the last word. After Johnson’s Trump invited his short-lived press secretary Katie Zacharia (Veronika Slowikowska) to redeem herself by reciting the show’s traditional opening line—and she flubbed it—Trump turned to him: “Tom, why don’t you take this one?”
