Jon Stewart Signs Multi-Year Daily Show Deal Through 2028

Jon Stewart and The Daily Show are staying put at Comedy Central.

Stewart has signed a new multi-year deal to remain at The Daily Show through December 2028, Skydance Television announced Monday. The deal will carry Stewart—and The Daily Show—through the 2028 election and the show’s 33rd season.

It marks Stewart’s first multi-year renewal since returning to The Daily Show in 2024.

The show’s current format will remain intact, with Stewart hosting Mondays and members of The Daily Show‘s news team sharing hosting duties Tuesday through Thursday. Correspondent-hosts Ronny Chieng, Josh Johnson, Jordan Klepper, Michael Kosta, and Desi Lydic, are all expected to return alongside Stewart.

Stewart will also remain an executive producer alongside showrunner Jen Flanz and his longtime manager, James “Baby Doll” Dixon.

“Jon Stewart is a generational talent and The Daily Show continues to be one of the most influential franchises on television and a cornerstone of Comedy Central,” Skydance TV co-chair and chief content officer George Cheeks said in announcing the deal. “We are excited to continue our partnership with Jon and his award winning news team.”

The long-term renewal puts to rest months of speculation surrounding Stewart’s future at the cable channel amid parent company Paramount’s new ownership under David Ellison’s Skydance.

Stewart’s relationship with the company has at times been pointed. After CBS canceled Colbert’s Late Show, Stewart openly questioned whether the decision was purely financial and suggested it looked like Paramount was trying to placate the Trump administration as it sought regulatory approval for its Skydance merger.

But Stewart and The Daily Show have also remained among Comedy Central’s strongest performers.

In its renewal announcement, Skydance noted that the show recently posted its best third-quarter total audience in eight years, dating back to Q3 2018. Its social accounts have generated 1.9 billion views in 2026, which makes The Daily Show the most-viewed cable program across social media this year. The show also picked up two Emmy wins in September.

The timing of Stewart’s deal is notable beyond Comedy Central.

Jimmy Kimmel, who shares manager James Dixon with Stewart, is currently negotiating with ABC on a new contract that would keep Jimmy Kimmel Live! on the air beyond the expiration of Kimmel’s current deal in May 2027. Kimmel is also believed to be seeking a multi-year extension that would carry his show through the 2028 election.

Those talks have become surprisingly (and publicly) contentious, with Disney reported to be seeking budget cuts even as Kimmel delivers larger audiences than he was drawing ahead of his show’s two previous renewals.

For Stewart, at least, that question has now been answered: he’ll be at The Daily Show desk on Monday nights for the entirety of the next presidential election cycle, presumably seeing Donald Trump out of the White House.
