Blake Griffin spent 14 seasons in the NBA. His next move: hosting a late-night show.
The six-time NBA All-Star is set to host The Stepback with Blake Griffin, a new weekly late-night show premiering Tuesday, Oct. 20, on Prime Video and YouTube. The debut is timed to the opening night of the 2026-27 NBA season.
The Hollywood Reporter first reported the news Wednesday.
The show will find Griffin weighing in on some of the bigger—and thornier—subjects surrounding sports, with topics expected to include gambling, NIL, taxpayer-funded stadiums, analytics and the state of sports journalism.
Production actually got underway months ago. The Stepback began taping episodes in June before a live studio audience, with installments now in post-production. A new episode will arrive each Tuesday, with Griffin’s commentary driving the format rather than a traditional parade of celebrity guests.
Griffin isn’t shy about where he’s drawing inspiration.
“I’ve watched and idolized shows like The Daily Show and Last Week Tonight, so to follow in their footsteps while putting my own stamp on the genre is an amazing opportunity that I’m grateful to take part in,” he said in a statement.
The project comes from Amazon’s Wondery and Griffin’s Mortal Media, the production company he runs with former NFL player Ryan Kalil. Griffin is already part of the Amazon family as an analyst on NBA on Prime.
And while his athletic career made him famous, comedy isn’t entirely a post-retirement pivot. Griffin has performed stand-up, appeared as himself on Broad City, and previously made a series of comedy videos with Funny or Die.
New additions to the broader late-night landscape have become increasingly rare, but sports has produced a handful of attempts in recent years to marry the form with game-day culture.
Early last year, ESPN aired five episodes of They Call It Late Night with Jason Kelce, a one-hour show taped before an audience in Philadelphia during the NFL playoffs. The series leaned heavily into the traditional late-night format, complete with comedy, guests and a house band.
This summer, former Late Late Show host James Corden returned to the time period with FIFA World Cup on FOX After Hours with James Corden. The show ran during the World Cup, mixing tournament talk with celebrity guests and comedy alongside Rio Ferdinand and Corden’s former Late Late Show colleague Ian Karmel.
