The Daily Show marked its 30th anniversary Wednesday night with a 16-minute highlights package spanning three decades of news coverage.
Released 30 years to the night of the show’s July 22, 1996 premiere, the video moves chronologically through the headlines that defined each of its eras, featuring clips of Craig Kilborn, Jon Stewart, Trevor Noah, and each of the show’s current rotating hosts.
The retrospective touches on nearly every major story of the past three decades, including the Clinton impeachment, the 2000 election recount, the September 11 attacks, the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq, Hurricane Katrina, Barack Obama’s election, the financial crisis, Donald Trump’s rise, the coronavirus pandemic, the murder of George Floyd, January 6, and the 2024 election.
It also features many of the correspondents who helped define the show over the years, among them Stephen Colbert, Steve Carell, Samantha Bee, Ed Helms, John Oliver, Aasif Mandvi, Jessica Williams, Roy Wood, Jr., Jordan Klepper, Hasan Minhaj, Ronny Chieng, Desi Lydic, Michael Kosta, and Josh Johnson.
