President Donald Trump’s trip to China has impacted Gutfeld!‘s own Wednesday itinerary.
“Gutfeld! will not air tonight due to continuing coverage of President Trump’s state visit to China,” the program’s official X account announced early Wednesday afternoon, hours ahead of its usual taping time.
Trump is in Beijing for two days of high-stakes talks with Chinese leader Xi Jinping, starting Thursday morning local time (Wednesday night ET).
The bumping of the weeknightly, Greg Gutfeld-led panel discussion, though proactive, sparked pushback from ardent fans.
“Great. Canceled because some of some mind-numbingly boring stuff in China,” one fan replied on X. “Who makes these decisions”
“Why Fox News do you do this?” groused another of the Gutfeld! faithful. “All the other shows are ‘news’ either explicitly, or they cut to news in the middle of them. I don’t need China news clips in my brain 24/7.”
One fan suggested that Gutfeld!’s ratings should overrule such a decision, noting, “He’s the number one show for crying out loud. Enough of the blah blah blah talking heads.”
For many Fox News viewers, Gutfeld! and its quippy commentary on the day’s headlines represents a 60-minute respite from the cable newser’s intense news coverage.
“Boo, some of us need a break, and Gutfeld is our break,” one viewer wrote on X. Added another, “Thanks for early heads up, but it doesn’t make it any easier. Why can’t you let us have one, 1 , uno hour of relief?”
Wednesday night’s panel had not yet been announced; thus far this week, Gutfeld has been joined by Kevin O’Leary, Lydia Moynihan, Charles Payne, Jamie Lissow, Joe Machi, Emily Compagno, Jeff Dye, and Tom Shillue.
Hosted by Greg Gutfeld, who’s also a co-host of Fox News’ The Five, the late-night-styled 10 p.m. ET program tapes around 6 p.m. in the evening, making it particularly vulnerable to being bumped when major developments unfold closer to airtime—as has happened twice in recent months, due to the war in Iran. In such instances when an already-banked taping is bumped, historically the network has sometimes held those episodes for broadcast the following night.
