Hannah Waddingham is trying to take care of her “baby”—her voice, that is—when she gets interrupted by a pair of Saturday Night Live UK cast members in the first promo for this weekend’s episode.
In the video above, the Emmy-winning Ted Lasso star/Laurence Olivier Award-nominated West End vet is at home base, warming up her pipes with a sequence of face-contorting exercises, when Annabel Marlow and George Fouracres rock up.
Marlow and Fouracres start to lavish praise on their latest host, only to be cut short and informed by Waddingham that she’s in the midst of her warm-up routine. Taking a cue from Waddingham’s lingual gymnastics, Fouracres ventures forth with his own attempt—only to sputter over-enunciated nonsense.
Marlow then demonstrates her own “boring” warm-up technique, and… well, let’s just say it might not be what you expect. Press play above to hear what Marlow has to offer.
Waddingham is hosting the seventh episode of SNL UK, this Saturday, May 9, with BRIT Award-winning singer-songwriter Myles Smith as musical guest.
The following week, Rwandan and Scottish actor Ncuti Gatwa (Doctor Who, Sex Education) will close out SNL UK‘s first eight-episode series alongside musical guest indie-pop singer-songwriter Holly Humberstone. Fun fact: Gatwa and Doctor Who showrunner Russell T Davies both were in the audience for last weekend’s Aimee Lou Wood-hosted show.
