SNL UK Cast Share Plans for First Week Off: ‘Need to Wash My Bedding’

The cast and crew of Saturday Night Live UK have plans both big and very small, for this their first week without a new show to stage.

The SNL offshoot, which airs on Sky One and streams on Sky NOW (and Stateside on Peacock), launched with an ambitious four episodes in a row—a feat NBC’s SNL has not tackled since fall 2024—but will take a quick breather before resuming its run with another four-pack of fresh ones.

With no writing, pre-pro meetings and rehearsals to occupy this week, cast members such as Annabel Marlow, Larry Dean, Al Nash and Celeste Dring in the video below share how they planned to spend this time off.

Marlow, for one, is set to see the West End musical Oliver, while Scotsman Shep is making tracks for Tenerife—even though SNL UK‘s British-themed pub song admittedly “ruined” the Spanish destination for him.

A trip to the “cinema” (movies) was on many to-do lists (including Nash’s), as was “yoga” and catch-up time with “mum.” Dring was looking forward to a getaway with “my boyfriend,” surely cuing a chorus of broken hearts out there.

Nash (over?)shared a need to “wash my bedding” and catch up on other “normal” chores, while multiple crew members spoke of, say, “reminding friends and family that I’m still alive,” and “talking to my family for the first time in several months,” given that the SNL UK machine has been chug-chug-chugging along since early this year, well ahead of its official March 21 debut.

SNL UK is hitting pause exactly midway through its freshman run. To date, beloved SNL alum Tina Fey, Northern Irish actor Jamie Dornan, English actor Riz Ahmed, and English actor/comedian Jack Whitehall have served as hosts, with musical performances provided by Wet Leg, Wolf Alice, Kasabian, and Jorja Smith.

The second half of the eight-episode season series kicks off Saturday, April 25, with Irish actress Nicola Coughlan (Derry Girls, Bridgerton) as host and Foo Fighters as musical guest. They’ll be followed May 2 with English actress Aimee Lou Wood (The White Lotus) as host, and musical guest MEEK.

The final two outings of the season—which was expanded from a scant six episodes ahead of its premiere—have yet to announce hosts/musical guests.
