Nick Offerman Takes Aim at Trump’s America 250 Plans in Daily Show Return

Nick Offerman made a surprise appearance on The Daily Show Tuesday night to deliver a warning about America’s 250th birthday—and the man throwing the party.

What followed was a characteristically wry dismantling of Donald Trump’s plans for the celebration, which Offerman framed as less a tribute to the country than a tribute to the president himself.

“Okay… sure, Trump. Plan the party,” Offerman said, as he ticked through a series of proposals—including Trump’s signature appearing on U.S. currency and multiple commemorative coins bearing his likeness. “A coin with Donald Trump’s face—finally, a way to lose the respect of a gumball machine.”

He took particular issue with Trump-themed national park passes, returning to a cause he’s championed on the show before. “I go to national parks to get away from your face,” Offerman said, drawing cheers from the audience.

From there, Offerman mocked the president’s proposed “Arc de Trump” monument in Washington and a planned UFC fight on White House grounds, likening the spectacle to ancient Rome. “Bloodsports for the entertainment of a Caesar isn’t a show of strength—it’s literally the first sign of a declining empire,” he said.

Still, Offerman ultimately pivoted from satire to sincerity. Urging viewers not to let the anniversary become overly politicized or personality-driven, he encouraged Americans to celebrate the country on their own terms—whether through historical reenactments, “throwing tea into a harbor,” or visiting the national parks.

Offerman’s unbilled Tuesday night appearance marked his third turn in The Daily Show’s “In My Opinion” series, following earlier segments on protecting national parks and supporting small farmers. With each return, Offerman has used the platform to spotlight a different slice of American life—only to arrive at the same conclusion: a pointed critique of Trump-era priorities.
