As Vulture’s Rebecca Alter writes, Muppet fans are up in arms at the film’s portrayal of Jim Henson as “a sort of squeaky-clean, clueless dork who is never in on the joke.”

“Lorne has not seen the movie yet,” Reitman revealed to Deadline at the Toronto International Film Festival. “Lorne is someone who always looks forward. I think it’s part of his genius”

The Jason Reitman film’s wide release is still pegged to the 49th anniversary of SNL’s series premiere on October 11th, but as Variety reports, it’s now getting a three-step platform release, landing exclusively in L.A., N.Y. and Toronto on Sept. 27, followed by a limited release on Oct. 4.
