Zohran Mamdani, the frontrunner in New York’s mayoral race, will make his Daily Show debut tonight, guesting with Jon Stewart.
It will be Mamdani’s second late-night appearance this year, following a joint election-eve visit with Brad Lander on Stephen Colbert’s Late Show ahead of his decisive primary victory in June. Former Gov. Andrew Cuomo, who ran against Mamdani in the primary as a Democrat, is now challenging him in the general election as an Independent.
Mamdani’s platform—free buses, rent freezes for one million rent-stabilized apartments, and universal child care—has drawn sharp attention both inside and beyond New York. That attention intensified when President Trump publicly derided Mamdani as a “100% Communist Lunatic,” threatened to withhold federal funds from the city if Mamdani is elected, and cast the contest as part of a broader battle over America’s political direction.
Following Stewart’s interview with Mamdani tonight, Daily Show senior correspondent Desi Lydic will take over as host tomorrow through Thursday. Her last week behind the Daily Show anchor desk came in mid-September, hot on the heels of her double win at this year’s Emmy Awards.
Singer-songwriter Lucy Dacus will be Lydic’s guest on Tuesday, promoting the deluxe edition of her album Forever is a Feeling: The Archives.
On Wednesday, Lydic will welcome actor and author Aubrey Plaza alongside co-author Dan Murphy. The two are out with their new children’s book, Luna and the Witch Throw a Halloween Party.
The Daily Show will close out the week on Thursday with Lydic’s guest Justine Lupe. Lupe, best known for her role on Succession, is promoting Season 2 of the Netflix series Nobody Wants This.
The Daily Show airs weeknights at 11 p.m. ET/PT on Comedy Central and is available to stream the next day on Paramount+.
