Comedian Rosebud Baker, a three-year veteran of Saturday Night Live’s writers’ room, is leaving the show ahead of its 51st season.
Baker confirmed her departure Monday afternoon to LateNighter contributor Jon Schneider, who hosts our partner podcast, the Saturday Night Network.
Baker joined SNL midway through Season 47 in February 2022 after a stint on the HBO Max series That Damn Michael Che. She joined the show’s “Weekend Update” writing team at the start of Season 50.
Baker joked about the toll of writing for “Update” during a recent appearance on David Spade and Dana Carvey’s Fly on the Wall podcast: “It’s like training yourself to be a sociopath or a psychopath, because you just read these horrible, horrific headlines and you’re like, what’s funny—hilarious—about this?”
An accomplished stand-up, Baker was named one of Variety’s “Top 10 Comics to Watch” and Vulture’s “Comedians You Should and Will Know.”
She released her second stand-up special, The Mother Lode, on Netflix this past February, has guested twice on The Daily Show, appeared as a guest panelist on Have I Got News For You in 2024, and was a featured comic on David Letterman’s Netflix series That’s My Time in 2022. She also co-hosts the Find Your Beach podcast with her husband, comic Andy Haynes.
Baker is the second member of SNL’s writers’ room to confirm her departure in as many days. Celeste Yim announced their exit after five years on the show late Sunday.
SNL’s 51st season kicks off Saturday, October 4.
