The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon is set to debut a second season of its microdrama Who Billionaire? Me Billionaire this Sunday night, bringing the vertically filmed soap spoof back less than two months after its first season ended on a cliffhanger.
Details about the new season remain under wraps, but while discussing the new season on Thursday night’s Tonight Show, Fallon promised “some fun cameos.”
The first season starred Jimmy Fallon, John Stamos, microdrama veteran Kasey Esser, creator Delaney Rowe, and comedian and Tonight Show writer Rose Kelso in a ten-part sendup of the short-form soap operas that have exploded in popularity on mobile platforms. In addition to airing on The Tonight Show, the installments were distributed on Peacock and across the show’s social channels.
After the first eight installments rolled out over the course of a week, Fallon announced on air that they had already been viewed more than 20 million times.
The season concluded with Stamos’ Doug revealing that he was already engaged to a mystery woman as the doorbell rang—and the screen cut to “To Be Continued.”
Season 2 will arrive on a high-profile edition of The Tonight Show. Sunday’s show is the first of four special episodes NBC has scheduled to follow Sunday Night Football this season, giving Fallon the benefit of one of television’s biggest lead-ins.
The Sept. 27 episode will follow the Los Angeles Rams–Denver Broncos game and local newscasts nationwide, with Sylvester Stallone and Luke Bryan set to appear.
NBC has three additional post-Sunday Night Football editions of The Tonight Show scheduled for Nov. 8, Nov. 15, and Jan. 10.
The Sunday specials continue a strategy NBC revived last season, when all four of Fallon’s post-football broadcasts ranked among The Tonight Show’s ten highest-rated episodes of the season.
As for Who Billionaire? Me Billionaire, viewers will apparently have to tune in Sunday to learn who rang that doorbell—and what other billionaire-sized problems await.
