John Mulaney left many Everybody’s Live viewers scratching their heads this week with a filmed segment focused on a famous celebrity’s brother whose name was never revealed.
The docu-style clip was light on context, but tied into the episode’s “Funeral Planning” theme with interview snippets from an unnamed man speaking about health and longevity.
“I don’t want to die. I’m having a blast. I do plan on stretching this thing out,” he began. “I truly am into the longevity deal. Yeah, there’s a lot of snake oil, but I’m super intrigued by what’s coming.”
That’s when he dropped a couple clues that took the bit in a different direction. “Sometimes when you’re a celebrity sibling, let’s just face it, we get a bad wrap,” he said. “I don’t fault anybody for [asking] questions. ‘How’s your brother?’ I’ve answered that question a bunch.”
“Weirdly enough, we’re starting to look a little bit more alike later in life,” he added. “I don’t see it, because my optics are a lot different.”
Any viewers who didn’t see a resemblance either can now rest easy knowing that the man in question was Doug Pitt.
That’s “Pitt” as in “Brad Pitt.”
Doug Pitt, one of Brad’s two siblings, is three years younger than his actor brother, and is not in the entertainment world himself. The businessman and investor has been involved in various real estate and tech pursuits since launching a computer firm in 1991 and bringing it to sale in 2013.
He’s also an avid philanthropist who has contributed to causes like clean water initiatives in East Africa and education resources in impoverished areas. In 2010, he was even bestowed the position of Goodwill Ambassador for the United Republic of Tanzania.
Though he stays out of the spotlight, he did briefly take center stage in a viral 2012 ad campaign for Virgin Mobile called “The Second Most Famous Pitt,” done in an effort to raise funds for the nonprofit he founded, Care to Learn.
Now Doug Pitt can add Everybody’s Live with John Mulaney to his otherwise sparse IMDb page.
