Trump Posts Video of Jon Stewart Praising Him on The Daily Show

And you thought Donald Trump couldn’t take a joke. He can, it seems—so long as it’s accompanied by praise.

In a Thursday afternoon Truth Social post, the president shared a minute-long clip from this Monday’s Daily Show, in which Stewart—pledging to “give credit where credit’s due”—thanked Trump for doing veterans “a solid” by fast-tracking FDA approval of novel psychedelic treatments for veterans suffering from PTSD.

Of course, Stewart being Stewart, he tempered his praise with mockery of Trump’s hastily planned Saturday morning press conference, poking fun at the president’s fumbling attempt to name one of the drugs in question: ibogaine.

“Buddy, buddy, buddy. Ibogaine. Ibogaine,” Stewart said. “Rogaine with an ‘Ibo,’ it’s easy!”

“I’m sorry, I’m falling into old habits. It’s good,” Stewart continued, adding of Trump: “He did a good thing. I’m nitpicking. I apologize. A lot of people are going to get the help they need.”

Trump’s post (which was, in fact, a repost from a conservative blogger and science skeptic) did not include Stewart’s complete comments. In the full segment (below), Stewart went on to joke about the president’s signature and wondered whether we’d even be able to tell if Trump himself were on psychedelic drugs.

Still, it’s unusual for Trump to platform such a frequent critic—one he has previously called “a dummy,” “a joke,” and “not very bright and totally overrated.”

Stewart has yet to acknowledge the president’s social media mention.
