Jimmy Kimmel Live! on Thursday night took a closer look at President Donald Trump‘s newly formed competitor to the United Nations.
Trump as part of his attendance at the World Economic Forum in Davos this week talked up his “Board of Peace” organization, which has ostensibly been conceived to oversee a ceasefire in Israel’s war with Hamas and map out a future for the war-torn Gaza Strip.
Australia, France, Germany, Italy, Canada and Norway are among the majors who thus far have declined to pony up one billion dollars for a “lifetime seat” on said board, whereas regional Middle East countries including Turkey, Egypt, Saudi Arabia and Qatar quickly said yes.
“Trump has a new thing he came up with called the Board of Peace, which many normal countries fear he is forming to replace the United Nations,” Kimmel explained in his Thursday monologue. “Of course, membership isn’t free to the B.O.P. He’s charging other world leaders a billion dollars apiece to join.
“[He’ll] take cash, check, Venmo, crypto… whatever you like,” Kimmel quipped, before dropping the bombshell that the Board of Peace’s chairman will be none other than… Trump, who accepted his own board’s invitation to fill the top spot.
“Almost no western democracies signed up to be part of this, but the very sketchy leaders of Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and Hungary did immediately,” Kimmel noted. Trump also “invited Putin to be on the Board of Peace—in his downtime when he isn’t bombing Ukraine.”
Over video of Trump introducing his inaugural board in Davos, Kimmel remarked, “What a group this is! They might as well call it the Legion of Doom.”
As the camera panned the two rows of seated Board of Peace members, Jimmy Kimmel Live! deftly inserted a familiar-but-fitting, devilish face—as seen in the clip below.
