Tina Fey channels Mary Poppins—eventually minus an affected accent, thankfully—in a supercalifragilisticexpialidocious promo for the imminent series premiere of Saturday Night Live UK.
In the Sky One promo above, the 11-person SNL UK cast is puzzling over how best to get out the word about the sketch comedy series’ premiere when who should float down from the heavens rafters of the show’s legendary TC1 Studio but Fey as Mary Poppins.
Fey pretty quickly ditches her attempt at a fancy English accent, then gets to unpacking Poppins’ famously bottomless carpet bag. From deep inside, she pulls out “everything you need for a perfectly perfect” SNL UK premiere.
Among the items: an endless magician’s scarf, a requisite wig, a floor lamp, a crown (“in case you guys want to do royal stuff”) a “really long shoe,” an eel pie “with extra eel” (for cast member Jack Shep), and of course the Epstein Files—which cast members/”Weekend Update” co-anchors Paddy Young and Ania Magliano quickly claim dibs on for joke-making purposes.
Fey then whips out a cue card for herself, which reveals she thought that hosting SNL‘s UK offshoot would gain her dual citizenship. Apparently for good measure, she also secretly wed each member of the cast.
Fey’s Poppins bids the cast adieu, re-opens her brolly, and attempts to float back up into the rafters, even though, she grumbles, the harness “really hurts my crotch.”
Across the pond, SNL UK will air on Sky One and stream on NOW, live at 10 p.m. GMT (or 6 p.m. ET). Stateside, episodes will stream on Peacock the next day.
