Comic Tim Dillon to Host ‘Talk Show-Style’ Netflix Special

Tim Dillon is headed back to Netflix—with a twist.

The conservative-leaning comedian debuted his first Netflix comedy special, Tim Dillon: A Real Hero, in 2022. In it, he “rants about fast food, living in Texas, Disney adults, and the reason no one should be called a hero.” He also had a short special as part of the streamer’s The Comedy Lineup in 2018.

Now, Dillon is slated to return to Netflix for another comedy special this fall. However, things will be a little different this time around. Rather than a traditional stand-up hour, the comic will adopt an “unscripted, talk show-style” format.

“Set over the backdrop of the upcoming election, Dillon’s new hour will focus on the most important, but often overlooked, element of our political system: The People,” Deadline reports. “And pose the question: Do we get what we deserve? Topics will lead to conversations no one wants to have at the holiday table (but that Dillon isn’t afraid to lead).”

This isn’t the first time Netflix has experimented with a “talk-show style” format. John Mulaney‘s Everybody’s in LA, which aired live for six episodes as part of May’s Netflix Is a Joke Fest, shook up the late-night landscape with its unorthodox approach.

However, details about Dillon’s new special are still something of a mystery. It remains to be seen whether “talk show-style” suggests something akin to Everybody’s in LA or is more in the vein of The Tim Dillon Show, the comedian’s podcast, which he has hosted since 2019.

Dillon is credited as the creator and executive producer of the still-untitled upcoming special, which is produced by TheYearOfElan and ITV America. Outside of standup and podcasting, the comic played the role of Manny in Eli Roth’s 2023 horror flick Thanksgiving; he’s also slated to appear in Joker: Folie à Deux this October.
