The Kansas City Chiefs will win Super Bowl LIX—at least according to The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon’s litter of puppies.
For the tenth year in a row, Jimmy Fallon enlisted a gaggle of golden retriever puppies to determine the winner of the big game. Setting up two dog bowls full of food—each one representing a team—Fallon releases the dogs and lets them beeline for their choice of bowl. Whichever bowl gets the most puppies wins.
Fallon has trotted out the puppies to make predictions about various matchups—including The Kentucky Derby, March Madness, the Academy Award for Best Picture, and even political elections—since his Late Night with Jimmy Fallon days. (The canines first made NFL predictions on that show in 2011, when they incorrectly predicted the teams of Super Bowl XLV months in advance.)
Last night, most of the dogs went to the Chiefs’ bowl, locking in their prediction that Travis Kelce and Patrick Mahomes would help bring the Vince Lombardi trophy home to Kansas City for the third year in a row.
But before you call your bookie, take note: Fallon’s puppies don’t have the best track record. In fact, they’ve only predicted three of the past nine Super Bowl winners correctly. The last time they guessed correctly was in 2021, when they predicted the Tampa Bay Buccaneers would emerge victorious against the Chiefs.Â
Last night’s Chiefs prediction marks the first time the puppies have had faith in the Kansas City team. They bet against the Chiefs in 2023 and 2024, only to be proven wrong when the team took home the championship both years.
