Saturday Night Live’s hair and makeup team is known to be one of the best in the business, and it would seem their peers agree. SNL has nabbed four nominations at this year’s Make-Up Artists & Hair Stylists Guild Awards.
The IATSE Local 706 guild has held their awards for twelve years running, honoring hair and make-up achievements across film, TV, theater, music videos, and commercials. SNL is one of the most nominated programs this year, trailing only behind Dancing with the Stars, which earned five noms.
SNL’s makeup team was nominated in three separate categories, including Best Contemporary Makeup (Television Special, One Hour or More Live Program Series), where they’ll, um, face off against Dancing with the Stars, Gaga Chromatica Ball, So You Think You Can Dance, and The Voice. SNL has been nominated in the category three times before
Of course, not all of SNL’s sketches take place in modern times, and the guild’s nominations reflect that. SNL also nabbed a nom for Best Period and/or Character Makeup, which it has won four times before. Also nominated in that category is Conan O’Brien’s Max travel series Conan O’Brien Must Go.
SNL is also up for a Best Special Make-Up Effects award. The show’s makeup department, headed by Louie Zakarian, previously won the trophy in 2020, 2022, and 2024.
Over in the hair department, the show earned a nomination for Best Period and/or Character Hair Styling. Hair designer (and “Bronx Beat” inspo) Jodi Mancuso leads SNL’s team of hair pros.
Winners for this year’s Make-Up Artists & Hair Stylists Guild Awards will be announced at an awards ceremony on February 15, 2025. The full list of nominees in each category can be viewed here.
