SNL Cut a Beavis and Butt-Head Sequel From Ryan Gosling’s Return

First on LateNighter: Ryan Gosling and Mikey Day did bring Beavis and Butt-Head back to Saturday Night Live tonight—but viewers at home never got to see it.

A sequel to the pair’s wildly viral 2024 Beavis and Butt-Head sketch was staged during dress rehearsal for Gosling’s latest hosting stint. But for reasons that are unclear, the sketch was cut before the episode’s live broadcast.

The first installment, which aired during Gosling’s 2024 hosting stint, quickly became one of SNL’s most widely shared sketches of the past several seasons.

In that version, Heidi Gardner played a NewsNation anchor moderating a panel discussion about artificial intelligence when the segment was derailed by two audience members who bore an uncanny resemblance to Beavis and Butt-Head—played by Gosling and Mikey Day under heavy makeup and prosthetics.

According to audience members at dress rehearsal, tonight’s sequel returned to the same basic setup, again featuring a live TV discussion that is interrupted by the same two audience members who look exactly like Beavis and Butt-Head.

The new version also added another animated lookalike to the mix, with Sarah Sherman appearing as Tina Belcher from Bob’s Burgers, whose distinctive voice and awkward delivery further derails the discussion.

While Gardner played the NewsNation anchor in the original sketch—and famously struggled to keep from breaking—tonight’s version featured Ashley Padilla in the moderator role.

Audience members who saw the sketch during dress rehearsal reported that it played strongly in the room, drawing big laughs as Gosling and Day’s uncanny Beavis and Butt-Head lookalikes once again disrupted the televised panel.

SNL frequently posts sketches that are cut after dress rehearsal or trimmed for time to its YouTube channel and social platforms. Whether this one eventually surfaces online remains to be seen.

  2. RTWNYC says:

Too bad it wasn’t included. It had to be funnier than all the other lame sketches.

  3. Niko says:

If anything, I would’ve loved to see Sarah as Tina Belcher. Uhhhhhhh…

  4. Nate says:

Tina is great but keeping with the theme maybe Daria would’ve been a good addition??

  5. AJT says:

The first one wasn’t funny in the first place. And the fact there was breaking of character in the first sketch with no repurcussions shows how far Lorne Michaels has fallen. It used to be a cardinal sin for a cast member to break character, it was one of Michaels’ rules: no breaking of character. Now he just doesn’t give a crap anymore.

You must be the only person who didn’t think that sketch was funny. Everyone I know cracked up when they watched it!

You’re kidding right? It’s one of the most brilliant andfunniest sketches I’ve ever seen! And breaking character is funny as hell to me!
