SNL Envisions an Artemis II Mission Derailed by Boredom, Floating Snot

One day after Artemis II splashed down upon completing its mission, NBC’s Saturday Night Live envisioned what Day 9 of 10 on board might have looked like.

And it wasn’t pretty.

In one of this weekend’s live sketches, Emmy-winning Euphoria star and first-time host Colman Domingo played Victor Glover, pilot of Artemis II. In one of the ship’s video logs, a “floating” Glover aimed to paint a poetic picture about the miracle of space flight and such, only to be rudely interrupted by a Pringles can drifting across the space–with Mission Specialist Jeremy Hansen (Marcello Hernández) and Commander Reid Wiseman (Mikey Day) chasing after it.

As if that wasn’t distracting enough for Glover, Mission Specialist Christina Koch (Sarah Sherman) floated into view mid-slumber, having not been properly secured to the wall. Glover spun her away and out of view, but then got interrupted anew by Hansen and Wiseman, who this time were trying to allay boredom by landing the former’s head into a floating NASA beanie.

The sleeping Koch made another lap across the module, frustrating Glover further. But when Day’s Wiseman floated back into to frame to report that he sneezed and now had a weightless snake of snot dangling upward from his nose, even Glover had to admit that the visual was pretty awesome.

Capping the space nuttiness was a final appearance by Hernandez’s Hansen, who desperately begged for assistance extracting his trapped “pee-pee” from the tube used for in-flight urination. Glover begged off, but Wiseman and his none-too-delicate hand was happy to help.

Even though the hat joke is “no hands” …a crew-person’s hand is visible at the top of the shot at 2:18. Will it be fixed for the Friday repeat?
