OK, so it’s not quite a Gemini’s Twin reunion, but Ana Gasteyer guesting on this week’s episode of Loot may be the next best thing.
The Apple TV+ series stars Maya Rudolph as Molly Wells, a newly divorced billionaire who is attempting to navigate life on her own with plenty of money to burn. In this week’s episode, Gasteyer plays Grace Fences—a fellow billionaire divorcee who doesn’t seem to be handling the dissolution of her marriage quite as well as Molly.
Rudolph seemed thrilled to be able to share a stage with her former SNL co-star again.
“[It was] so nice,” Rudolph told TVLine. “I think everyone was titillated to have her. She infused so much joy. It’s nice to have an old friend who you have a second hand with because you don’t have to start from the beginning ever. And I felt like that just poured all over the set in the nicest way.”
Rudolph’s SNL tenure is probably best remembered for her on-screen pairings with the likes of Kristen Wiig, Tina Fey, and Amy Poehler. But one of her earliest recurring sketches, and breakout roles, was as Britanica—one half of the Destiny’s Child-like pop duo Gemini’s Twin. Ana Gasteyer played the band’s other member, Jonette.
Gasteyer’s guest role on Loot isn’t the first time she’s reunited with Rudolph. In 2019, both appeared in the film Wine Country, Amy Poehler’s feature directorial debut. Later that year, Rudolph sang on Gasteyer’s somewhat tongue-in-cheek holiday album, Sugar & Booze.
When it came time to cast the role of Grace, there weren’t a lot of contenders for the part. Loot co-creator Matt Hubbard told TVLine that Gasteyer was always their first choice for the part.
