Sarah Sherman Cast in Camp Miasma Meta Slasher Film

Saturday Light Live standout Sarah Sherman has been revealed to be among the full cast of Teenage Sex and Death at Camp Miasma, a meta slasher film directed by Jane Schoenbrun (I Saw the TV Glow).

The premise for the film, which is due for an August 7 theatrical release: “After years of slapdash sequels, the Camp Miasma franchise is handed over to an enthusiastic young director for resurrection. But when she visits the original’s star, a now-reclusive actress shrouded in mystery, the two women fall into a blood-soaked world of desire, fear, and delirium.”

Hannah Einbinder (Hacks) stars as the intrepid, queer filmmaker, while Gillian Anderson (The X-Files) plays the Camp Miasma franchise’s reclusive, onetime “final girl.”

Details on Sherman’s role have not been released. The cast also includes Dylan Baker (The Good Wife), Jasmin Savoy Brown (Yellowjackets), Zach Cherry (Severance), Arthur Conti (Beetlejuice Beetlejuice), Patrick Fischler (NCIS: Origins), Amanda Fix (Orphan Black: Echoes), Jack Haven (Atypical), Kevin McDonald (The Kids in the Hall), Quintessa Swindell (Black Adam), and Sorry, Baby writer/director/star Eva Victor.

Teenage Sex and Death at Camp Miasma is my best attempt at the ‘sleepover classic,’” Schoenbrun has said. “[It’s] an insane yet cozy midnight odyssey that beckons to unsuspecting viewers from the horror section at the local video store.”

Brad Pitt’s Plan B is producing Camp Miasma, with Mubi providing financing.

Landing in a horror flick jibes with Sherman’s particular proclivities as a consumer of cinema. As LateNighter observed, the comedian—who performs outside of Studio 8H as the body horror-loving Sarah Squirm—regularly updates a Letterbox log that spans splatter horror, underground oddities, and high-art depravity.
