Samantha Bee’s Next TV Gig Takes Her to a Canadian Embassy in Bulgaria

Samantha Bee is heading back to TV, and back to her native Canada.

The former Daily Show correspondent and Full Frontal host will headline The Ambassador, a 10-episode half-hour comedy for CBC set to premiere in winter 2027. The show is set inside a scrappy Canadian diplomatic embassy in Bulgaria.

Bee will play Olivia Winters, a former actor turned unorthodox diplomat. Allana Harkin, Bee’s longtime friend and former Full Frontal producer/correspondent, co-stars as Andrea Taylor, Olivia’s childhood best friend and a sharp, policy-driven Chargé d’Affaires.

The two are sent to the edges of global diplomacy to find new business opportunities for Canada while operating with limited resources and under scrutiny from Ottawa.

The series comes from showrunner Tim McAuliffe, whose credits include The Office, The Last Man on Earth, and Son of a Critch.

Bee rose to fame as a correspondent on The Daily Show with Jon Stewart, joining the Comedy Central series in 2003. She later hosted TBS’ Full Frontal with Samantha Bee, which premiered in 2016 and ran for seven seasons.

Since Full Frontal ended, Bee has hosted the podcasts Choice Words with Samantha Bee and The Daily Beast Podcast alongside Joanna Coles. She’s also toured with live shows including Your Favorite Woman: The Joy of Sex Education and How to Survive Menopause.

The Ambassador does not yet have a U.S. distributor.
