Roy Wood Jr. Takes First Post-Daily Show Role

After a dramatic exit from The Daily Show late last year, at least one piece of Roy Wood Jr.’s next act is coming into focus.

Deadline reports the comedian and former TDS correspondent has joined the cast of Jonah Hill’s new movie “Outcome.” The Apple Studios dark comedy, directed and co-written by Hill, will star Keanu Reeves, Cameron Diaz, Matt Bomer, and Hill himself.

It was last October that Wood announced he was leaving The Daily Show, where he had served as a correspondent since 2015. The move came as TDS continued its long process of finding a new permanent host to replace Trevor Noah, who left in 2022.

Explaining his departure in a recent interview with fellow Daily Show alum Samantha Bee, Wood stated that he’d lost faith that there were any paths to success left for a show that didn’t have a plan amid an industry that’s in crisis.

“I’ve had the gift of choosing to jump out the window a couple times and being kicked out of windows a couple times over the course of my career,” he told Bee. “I have more control if I jump, because I know where the grapple hook is.”

Wood has been keeping busy since departing The Daily Show. In February Variety reported he had sold a memoir, “The Man of Many Fathers.” He’s also working on two scripts, and still performs standup most weekends.

Among the other recent cast additions to “Outcome” is another former late-night star, David Spade.
