Ronny Chieng-Hosted Daily Show Posts Modest 18-49 Ratings Gain

According to Nielsen live-plus-same-day data for the week of June 3, 2024, Comedy Central’s The Daily Show averaged 535,000 total viewers with 111,000 P18-49. Relative to the most recent week of new episodes (May 20-23, 2024), that’s up +11% in total viewers, and +1% in P18-49 viewers.

Jon Stewart’s Monday June, 3 episode, his 14th since returning to The Daily Show as weekly host, averaged 787,000 total viewers with 147,000 P18-49 viewers (live-plus-same-day) at 11 p.m. The 787,000 represents Stewart’s largest live-plus-same-day audience since March 25, 2024, and is +13% from his most recent episode (May 20). However, Stewart’s 147,000 P18-49 average on June 3 was -3% from his most recent episode.

The Daily Show correspondent Ronny Chieng hosted the program’s Tuesday, June 4 through Thursday, June 6, 2024 installments. Chieng’s three episodes averaged 405,000 total viewers with 92,000 P18-49, per Nielsen live-plus-same-day. That’s -1% in total viewers, but +5% in P18-49 viewers relative to the most recent week of new episodes (when Michael Kosta hosted pre-Memorial Day weekend). Chieng’s Daily Show shed -8% in total viewers and -23% in P18-49 from the last time he solo-hosted the program (the week of March 4, 2024).

A good deal of Daily Show viewing is done more than 24 hours after the episode’s initial airing, and the aforementioned averages should grow exponentially once delayed viewing data becomes available.

Prior to the writers’ strike in May 2023, rotating Daily Show guest hosts averaged just 369,000 total live-plus-same-day viewers per show; when The Daily Show resumed in mid-October after writers’ strike concluded, that average fell to roughly 300,000 viewers.
