Michael Keaton is warmed up and ready for another round at Saturday Night Live. The actor—who stars in Beetlejuice Beetlejuice and the upcoming film Goodrich—will return to host SNL for the fourth time this Saturday. Billie Eilish is set to join him as musical guest, marking her fourth visit to the show, as well.
In a just-released promo, Keaton prepares to take the SNL stage, warming up as if he’s a boxer getting ready to enter the ring. “Starting at host,” an announcer’s voice booms. “He’s an actor from Pennsylvania. He’s 7 foot, 3 inches tall, 295 pounds.”
The Batman star pauses to cock his head in confusion at the incorrect statistics. “No” he says, then shrugs and goes back to jogging in place as the announcer continues, “You know him from his hit character Beetlejuice!”
The announcer proceeds with progressively sillier “facts” about Keaton. “His favorite food is minced garlic in a bowl. He graduated from the University of Beijing for computer science in 2006. Now he’s developing a line of organic farm-to-table-” When Keaton demands to know where all this is coming from, the voice cuts in overhead, “Either way, he’s hosting Saturday Night Live this week with Billie Eilish!”
Just as Keaton gets ready to finally take the stage, he runs into some technical difficulties of his own. He attempts to rip off his robe in an epic fashion, but accidentally pulls his pants off as well. “Oh my god, I’m so sorry!” he cries, quickly covering himself up in embarrassment.
Keaton is the rare SNL host to headline the show over four different decades. He first appeared in the show’s Season 8 Halloween episode in October 1982 alongside musical guests The New Joe Jackson Band. He hosted again in November 1992, with musical guest Morrisey. And 22 years later, in April 2015 (Season 40), he hosted for the third time with musical guest Carly Rae Jepson.
Keaton has also been impersonated on SNL himself, one time by Matthew Perry in a “Celebrity Jeopardy!” sketch in October 1997, and gain in 2012 by Taran Killam in the “You’re A Rat Bastard, Charlie Brown” sketch.
Goodrich hits theaters October 18. Directed and written by Hallie Meyers-Shyer, the comedy film stars Keaton as an art dealer who—after his second wife leaves him and checks into rehab—seeks the help of his adult pregnant daughter (Mila Kunis) in parenting his nine-year-old twins.
Keaton’s SNL return airs this Saturday October 12th at 11:30 p.m. ET/8:30 p.m. PT on NBC and Peacock. After this week’s episode, SNL will take a one-week break and return on November 6, just in time for John Mulaney to host the show’s pre-election episode with first-time musical guest Chappell Roan.
