Welp, The Late Show really is ending, isn’t it…?
With its final outing of 2025, CBS’ The Late Show with Stephen Colbert will present “Colbert’s Canceled Christmas: The Last Noel,” narrated by Parks and Recreation vet and frequent guest Nick Offerman.
Airing Thursday, December 18, “The Last Noel” portends to be the very final holiday cartoon unwrapped by The Late Show, which is going off the air in May 2026.
Thursday night’s show will also feature guest Hugh Jackman (now promoting Song Sung Blue) and a performance by Louis Cato and the Late Show Band.
The Late Show has made it an annual tradition to produce a holiday cartoon skewering Donald Trump and company for its final episode of the year. Last December gave us “It’s a Worm-derful Life,” which riffed on Robert F. Kennedy Jr. revelation that doctors had found a dead parasitic worm in his brain, and also found Elon Musk put in charge of Christmas efficiency as part of his D.O.U.C.H.E. program. (Months later, RFK Jr. was named President Trump’s United States Secretary of Health and Human Services.)
The 2023 cartoon, “The Indict-Mare Before Christmas,” followed Trump trying to slither his way out of an indictment by having Santa vouch for him. It also lampooned Joe Biden, Elon Musk, Marjorie Taylor Greene, Lauren Boebert, and others.
The Late Show‘s first animated holiday short, “A Very Special Counsel Christmas,” came in 2018, but the CBS talker’s tradition of political animation predates that. A cartoon Trump began appearing on The Late Show during its 2016 election coverage, ultimately prompting the Colbert-produced Showtime spinoff Our Cartoon President (which aired 48 episodes between 2018 and 2020).

Colbert is too brilliant and beloved to ever go ‘away’. CBS is cowardly and foolishly shortsighted. They’re letting go of their Golden Goose and it will bite them in the butt in the near future.
These billion $ mega mergers of entertainment companies are producing monopolies that will shovel nothing but AI crap eventually, it’s already close.
Artistic originality will never be completely repressed; even Putin can’t do it. Once we get people with integrity (remember that? sigh..) back in charge of FTC and FCC they will break up these greedy tools of political censorship and there will be a renaissance in American culture again.
Nobody is worried about Colbert; he already has a number of projects. It’s the staff, including a fine band, that I feel bad for. Workers are nothing to corporations, never have been.
I would enjoy a show that was 100% Louis Cato & band for the whole episode!!! Let ‘em rip for us at home!

Colbert lost his job due to him losing tens of millions of dollars per year, not due to a politician. James Corden, Lilly Singh, Samantha Bee, Conan, and Larry Wilmore all lost their jobs as late night hosts and they, unlike Colbert, have the dignity to beg for their jobs back.
Even Colbert’s other show got cancelled, After Midnight, and Taylor Tomlinson had the dignity not to blame others for her firing and keep on pleading for her job, unlike Colbert.
Just this past week Colbert again begged the Ellisons to keep his job. Colbert acts like a killer on death row fighting the guards as he’s being fitted into the electric chair.
Colbert lost his job because Drumpf, your ignorant stupid hero and the worst president ever, pressured CBS into firing him, because they wanted to get their business deal to go through! Yet here you are spreading your usual lies and bullshit because the thought of liberals being better than you makes your extremely thin skin crawl!
