Late Night Ratings: Thursday, September 19, 2024

Note: LateNighter’s late night daily ratings reports are drawn from Nielsen live-plus-same-day data and do not take include delayed and/or streaming views. They are generally posted on a two (business) day delay, which is how they are released by Nielsen.

Featuring Anderson Cooper and musical guest Sting, CBS’ The Late Show with Stephen Colbert dominated its 11:35 p.m. timeslot competition this past Thursday, both in total viewers and among People 18-49.

Colbert’s Thursday, September 19 episode averaged 1,958,000 total viewers with 233,000 P18-49, per Nielsen live-plus-same-day data. That’s down -7% in total viewers but up +2% among P18-49 from the night before (Wednesday, Sept. 18); up +1% in total viewers and up +14% in P18-49 viewers from the previous Thursday episode (Sept. 12).

Elsewhere, ABC’s Jimmy Kimmel Live! and NBC’s The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon split second place in the 11:35 p.m. slot. Featuring guests Kristen Bell, Peter Krause, and musical guest Hozier, Kimmel averaged 1,351,000 total viewers and 155,000 P18-49 this past Thursday. That’s down -2% and up +5%, respectively, from the night before; down -6% and -20%, respectively, from the previous Thursday episode. Featuring guests Demi Lovato, former Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton, and musical guest Twenty One Pilots, Fallon’s Tonight Show averaged 1,032,000 total viewers with 159,000 P18-49 this past Thursday. That’s down -1% and up +10%, respectively, from the night before; down -11% and -17%, respectively, from the previous Thursday episode.

Later, CBS’ After Midnight hosted by Taylor Tomlinson averaged 565,000 total viewers with 120,000 P18-49 on Thursday. That’s down -10% in total viewers, but up +22% in P18-49 viewers from the night before. The Sept. 19 After Midnight also shed -2% in total viewers, but gained +1% in P18-49 from the previous Thursday’s episode. James Adomian, Lake Bell, and Opey Olagbaju all appeared on the program.

ABC News’ half-hour Nightline averaged 721,000 total viewers with only 78,000 P18-49 this past Thursday. That’s down -5% in total viewers and -23% in P18-49 viewers from the night before; down -11% and -22%, respectively, from the previous Thursday’s episode.

With New York Knicks stars Jalen Brunson and Josh Hart making guest appearances, NBC’s Late Night with Seth Meyers averaged 715,000 total viewers with 94,000 P18-49 this past Thursday. That’s -7% in total viewers and -16% among P18-49 from the previous night’s episode. When compared with the previous Thursday’s Late Night, the program shed -9% in total viewers and -15% among P18-49.

Comedy Central’s The Daily Show was guest hosted by Ronny Chieng this past Thursday, with Phillip Lim as guest. The episode struggled in the ratings department, averaged 469,000 total viewers with only 65,000 P18-49. That’s down -9% in total viewers and -51% among P18-49 from the night before (also guest hosted by Chieng); down -8% and -43%, respectively, from the previous Thursday episode.
