Kenan Thompson Teams with SNL Writer for Debut Children’s Book

Kenan Thompson is going “unfunny” for his picture book debut.

Thompson is set to release his first children’s book, Unfunny Bunny, written with longtime Saturday Night Live writer Bryan Tucker

Unfunny Bunny follows the titular Bunny as he embarks on his first day of school, determined to be the class cut-up. When his jokes fall flat, Bunny learns about “unexpected friendship and pursuing your dreams,” per Thompson.

The story contains thirty of those “unfunny” jokes throughout, with illustrations by Tony Neal. Thompson previewed one of the jokes in a new announcement video (featuring a cameo from a LeBron James puppet Thompson voiced in a 2009 Nike ad campaign).

“I had such a great time writing this book with my buddy and dear friend that I write a lot of things with, like ‘What Up With That,’ Mr. Bryan Tucker,” Thompson says.

Now a senior writer, Tucker has been with SNL since 2005, just two years after Thompson himself joined the show.

Thompson now joins a growing list of late-night personalities who have authored children’s books. Jimmy Kimmel has The Serious Goose, Seth Meyers has I’m Not Scared, You’re Scared, and Jimmy Fallon has a whopping nine titles for young readers to his name.

The picture book release follows a memoir Thompson penned in 2023, When I Was Your Age: Life Lessons Funny Stories & Questionable Parenting Advice from a Professional Clown

Unfunny Bunny hits shelves January 13, 2026 via Feiwel & Friends. Preorders are available now
