Kenan Thompson, Chloe Fineman, Bobby Moynihan and Laraine Newman are among the Saturday Night Live stars present and past who will take turns reading a Celebrity Autobiography on Broadway this summer.
Having previously been staged Off-Broadway and on the West End, the Broadway-bound Celebrity Autobiography is a 90-minute show featuring “a constantly expanding, rotating cast of celebrities from TV, film and stage, sports, and, yes, even politics, acting out OTHER celebrities’ unintentionally hilarious autobiographies live on Broadway,” the official synopsis reads.
In addition to solo excerpts, the show weaves together passages from multiple autobiographies to create ensemble “mash-ups” that morph into humorous “he said, she said” scenarios, famous love triangles, and wildly different takes on the same experience.
Most of the stars in the rotation appear for a week or two at a time, and some just for a night or two. Also, surprise guests can be expected to pop in from time to time.
Performances begin May 16 at the Shubert Theatre, while the official opening night cast for Monday, May 18—two days after SNL‘s season finale—incudes Thompson, Moynihan, Scott Adsit, Mario Cantone, Jeff Hiller, Jackie Hoffman, Gayle King, Andrew Martin, Ben Mankiewicz, Nia Vardalos, and Rita Wilson.
The rotating cast for later shows includes Fineman and SNL alumni Newman, Will Forte, Cheri Oteri, Molly Shannon and Alan Zweibel, plus Lewis Black, Kathy Griffin, Ken Jeong, Tony Shalhoub, Jennifer Tilly, and Bruce Vilanch—among many others (per Broadway.com).
Celebrity Autobiography marks Thompson’s Broadway debut, whereas Fineman checked hers off last December in All In: Comedy About Love.
SNL Season 51 has just two episodes left to stage. This Saturday, Matt Damon will lord over Studio 8H for a third time, ahead of the July release of Christopher Nolan’s epic saga The Odyssey (in which he stars as Odysseus). That night, Noah Kahan will serve as musical guest for a second time.
For the season finale airing May 16, former cast member Will Ferrell will return as host for a sixth time, ahead of the summer launch of his Netflix comedy series The Hawk. The iconic Paul McCartney that night will serve as musical guest for a fifth time, with his new album, The Boys of Dungeon Lane, set for release May 29.
