With Saturday Night Live bringing in its cold open all-stars ahead of Election Day, could a Kate McKinnon cameo be on the horizon?
McKinnon herself isn’t ruling it out. Appearing on the Today show Tuesday morning to promote her best-selling middle-grade book The Millicent Quibb School of Etiquette for Young Ladies of Mad Science, the former Saturday Night Live star said she’d jump at the chance.
“I mean I would love to,” McKinnon said. “It’s such a talented cast. It’s such an exciting time… [Election years are] when SNL truly is the most trenchant and the most important in our culture, and I’m just, it’s so exciting.”
“So you’re telling us there’s a chance we see Hillary Clinton back on SNL?,” asked Today guest host Kaylee Hartung.
“I don’t know,” responded McKinnon, adding “I mean, they write it that week!”
McKinnon was SNL‘s resident Hillary Clinton through the show’s 2016 election cycle, at one point memorably appearing in a sketch alongside Clinton herself. McKinnon’s last appearance as Clinton came in the last episode before the 2020 election, when she warned Jim Carrey‘s Joe Biden not to count his chickens before they hatched ahead of Election Day.
McKinnon left the show in 2022. She has since returned twice—once to host in December 2023, and once in a cameo when Ryan Gosling hosted the show this past April.
SNL has just two more episodes ahead of the election. Michael Keaton hosts with musical guest Billie Eilish this weekend. The show then goes on break for a week, returning on November 2nd with its pre-election episode featuring host John Mulaney and musical guest Roan Chappell.
