Just because there’s an end in sight doesn’t mean The Late Show with Stephen Colbert can’t land a big booking. Former vice president and presidential candidate Kamala Harris has been added to tonight’s episode.
Harris’ visit to The Late Show will mark her first TV interview since losing in the 2024 presidential election to Donald Trump. It was during that campaign that she last visited Colbert’s show, a month before voters went to the polls.
Katherine Maher, CEO of NPR, had previously been listed as a scheduled guest, but it appears she has been bumped for Harris.
Colbert and Harris will have a lot to talk about. Aside from her reactions to the current political climate, Harris has made a couple of news-making announcements in the past 24 hours.
Just yesterday, the politician announced she will not run for governor in the state of California. Harris was reported to have been weighing a run for the position since January.
This morning, Harris announced a new book about her whirlwind presidential campaign, 107 Days. “What the world saw on the campaign trail was only part of the story,” Harris said in an announcement this morning. “My new book is a behind-the-scenes look at my experience leading the shortest presidential campaign in modern history.” 107 Days will be published on September 23 via Simon and Schuster.
Of course, there’s a good chance that Harris will broach the subject of CBS’ decision to cancel Colbert amid the speculation that President Donald Trump influenced the decision.
Tonight will be Harris’ eighth appearance on The Late Show. The episode will also feature a performance by Reneé Rapp.
