Two weeks after Last Week Tonight with John Oliver called out The Free Press, one of the reporters singled out by Oliver—Olivia Reingold—clapped back in a now-deleted Instagram reel.
In his October 12 episode, Oliver devoted much of his main story to The Free Press and its editor-in-chief Bari Weiss, criticizing the outlet’s reporting and editorial standards as it becomes part of CBS News under Paramount Skydance.
He specifically singled out Reingold, citing her on-camera explanation of a Free Press story about famine imagery from Gaza. Oliver mocked her phrasing and method—“we did something so simple, it’s shocking that no other journalist bothered to do it”—pointing out that the context she claimed to reveal had already been reported elsewhere. After quoting additional passages from the same Arabic source she cited, Oliver ended the segment with the jab that he would “see her in hell.”
On Sunday, Reingold posted an Instagram reel in which she appeared as “June Oliver,” host of a show called “Yesterday Today.” Dressed in a suit and wearing a gray-haired wig in front of an image of the Manhattan skyline, Reingold opened by saying the show’s purpose was to channel “our anger issues into a PowerPoint presentation.”

“Allow me to explain the job of a journalist,” she continued. “As a comedian, this is something I know a lot about. The number one job of a journalist is to increase happiness and diversity. And when a journalist fails to do that, that is not journalism. That is fascism.”
The reel culminated with Reingold (as Oliver) describing herself as “a journalist who recently reported facts that I did not like… I do believe if tried at The Hague under international law, she would be found guilty of war crimes—thought crimes, fashion crimes, crime crimes, and the worst crime of them all: being a Zionist.”
It wasn’t immediately clear why Reingold took the reel down, although screenshots of comments on it suggest the clip may not have been received as she intended.

I’m all for comedy, when it is funny. I don’t care what side you are on, if we can all laugh together there is hope. But I just don’t find anything she said funny, it was barely coherent. Sorry, no go for me.

Keep at it Olivia Reingold. Maybe in the future (but not likely), you will prove yourself to be one-fifth the “reporter” that John Oliver has proved himself to be. You can mock him but you won’t attain his intelligence or bravery, even in costume.
