It’s set to be a meeting of the late-night minds on the next episode of Conan O’Brien Needs a Friend when O’Brien catches up with Daily Show host Jon Stewart.
The one-time rivals—Stewart’s syndicated late-night show went up against O’Brien’s in some markets back in the mid nineties—should have plenty to talk about. Both are semi retired, and both recently won Emmy Awards for their respective returns to television earlier this year.
And if for some reason the podcast takes a turn and they find themselves in fisticuffs, it won’t be the first time. O’Brien, Stewart, and Stephen Colbert famously engaged in a knock-down drag-out fight during the 2008 Writers Strike that played out over all three of their shows on a single night.
The two late night hosts have visited each other’s shows multiple times over the years, with Stewart making a total of eleven appearances on O’Brien’s NBC and TBS shows, and O’Brien appearing on The Jon Stewart Show once and three times on Stewart’s The Daily Show With Jon Stewart.
Team Coco released an advance clip from next week’s interview that sees the two soberly discussing the changing economics for TV writers as tech companies like Amazon and Apple wield more power in the entertainment industry.
Jon Stewart’s episode of Conan O’Brien Needs a Friend is set to release this Monday, September 30.
Monday is September 30, not October 1. So, is the release on Monday or October 1?
It’s Monday (the 30th). I’ve updated the post. Thanks for pointing this out.
