Jon Lovitz dusted off his George Santos impression on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon Monday night—and, true to form, the disgraced former Congressman once again served as both muse and punchline.
Appearing “via satellite,” Lovitz channeled Santos’ flair for fabrication, spinning a series of outlandish boasts that ranged from claiming he stars in the Bruce Springsteen biopic to insisting his great-great-grandfather was Jesus. The bit culminated with a musical flourish—a rendition of the KPop Demon Hunters hit “Golden,” which Santos proudly introduced as his own composition.
The mid-monologue comedy bit followed Friday’s news that President Donald Trump had commuted Santos’ federal sentence. The former New York congressman was three months into an 87-month prison term for wire fraud and aggravated identity theft before walking free late Friday.
Lovitz first unveiled his Santos impression on Fallon’s show in January 2023, taking the guest chair to riff on the then-fresh allegations that Santos had fabricated large parts of his biography. The segment aired only weeks into Santos’ short-lived tenure in Congress. Days later, the politician lashed out on social media.
“I have now been enshrined in late-night TV history with all these impersonations, but they are all TERRIBLE so far,” Santos posted on X. “Jon Lovitz is supposed to be one of the greatest comedians of all time and that was embarrassing—for him not me! These comedians need to step their game up.”
Lovitz fired back with his trademark deadpan: “Thanks the review and advice. You’re right! I do need to step my game up! My pathological liar character can’t hold a candle to you!”
Lovitz’s take on Santos draws directly from his signature creation,”pathological liar” Tommy Flanagan—a fan favorite from his 1985–89 run on Saturday Night Live, which President Trump seems to be obsessed with himself. Lovitz performed the character 19 times on SNL.
Monday’s bit marked Lovitz’s third overall appearance on Fallon’s Tonight Show and his first since a 2019 guest slot. His latest outing as Santos can be viewed at the top of this post.
