The next time Nathan Fielder needs someone to play him, he might want to try giving Jimmy Fallon a call.
Fallon made for a remarkably convincing Fielder in Wednesday night’s Tonight Show cold open, a 90-second spoof of You Can See Everything that cast guest Jamie Lee Curtis as Elizabeth Holmes.
The bit borrowed its premise from a conversation between Fielder and Holmes in the film that also served as the centerpiece of its teaser trailer.
“Now, be honest. Do you really want to be on the show tonight?” Fallon asks Curtis.
“Of course I do,” she replies. “I love talking to you.”
Fallon presses her on whether she really wants to be there—or is simply there to promote her new NBC series, Newlyweds.
“No,” Curtis insists. “I’m engaging with you as a human being.”
When Fallon asks whether she is “being real right now,” Curtis delivers Holmes’ answer from the film: “I’m always being real.”
“Okay,” Fallon replies. “I’ll see you out there on the show.”
The two part ways, seemingly satisfied with their heart-to-heart.
Curtis waits until Fallon is safely out of earshot before dropping the act.
“Okay, God!” she mutters. “What an [bleep].”
Fallon’s spoof marked late night’s first swing at the You Can See Everything phenomenon. Over the past two weeks, Fielder and Holmes’ deeply strange dynamic has become one of the fall’s biggest cultural talking points.
