More than a decade into its run, CBS’ The Late Show with Stephen Colbert has never had Jimmy Fallon of NBC’s The Tonight Show in for a proper sit-down interview.
Until now.
With just 12 weeks left on the clock until The Late Show signs off for good, Fallon has been announced as a guest for the Thursday, March 5 episode.
As part of his milestone visit, Fallon will also be the latest celebrity to take part in “Rescue Dog Rescue,” a Late Show segment that aims to find forever homes for adorable adoptable doggos from North Shore Animal League.
To be clear, Fallon has appeared on Colbert’s Late Show three times before—including in no less than its September 2015 premiere—but never as a guest.
The rival late-night programs tape just five blocks apart from each other, in New York City.
Colbert in turn has only guested on Fallon’s Tonight Show twice—in person (in March 2014), and in a June 2018 “video chat.” Additionally, Colbert appeared twice, remotely, with Conan O’Brien in 2018 (as part of Fallon’s monologue), and to perform a duet of “The NeverEnding Story” in 2019.
A “crossing of the late-night streams” such as this is not without logistical challenges, usually requiring the visiting host to tweak their own show’s tape schedule that afternoon.
Upping that ante, Colbert and ABC’s Jimmy Kimmel appeared on each other’s programs the same night in late September 2025 when Kimmel was doing a week of shows in Brooklyn. That ambitious enterprise saw both hosts navigating rush hour traffic to shuttle from the Brooklyn Academy of Music to The Ed Sullivan Theater.
(PLEASE READ BEFORE DROPPING FALLON HATE)
To anyone ready to bash Fallon in these comments (ahem VICTOR calling him Fuckface Fallon): PLEASE remember that despite your tastes in late night hosts, this late night host combo has been a LONG TIME COMING and I’ve waited for this to happen~
Fallon and Colbert have been friends despite the late night block rivalry and to see these guys do something together after spurts of collabs in the early years is honestly a sentimental treat. Hate Fallon all you want, but I appreciate that he’ll finally have an interview w/Colbert before the Late Show is over.
Now I’m waiting for a full Strike Force 5 cameo to close out Colbert’s late night run.
Jimmy went from CRUSHING Stephen and Jimmy in the ratings with both shows COMBINED…and then….he “cared” about how people felt.
He rubbed your Dear Toddler’s hair around, when he had him on the Tonight Show! Fuckface Fallon went downhill after that!
Cope!
He’s Fuckface Fallon! He deserves all the bad shit his way, whether you like it or not!
Well unfortunately this is not the ‘bad shit’ you were looking for. Besides, this is less about Fallon and more about keeping the late night camaraderie aflame even with Stephen’s show ending soon. You gotta chill, dude, maybe sit out for this one~
Next week’s episode (and this article) is definitely not made for unrestrained, perpetually angry commenters like you or spiteful contrarians like Jons.
Fallon’s a pathetic loser, whom people finally figured out, after he was sucking up to Drumpf! The only reason he has the Tonight Show gig (that should have belong to Conan, if it weren’t for that shit sucking weasel Leno ratfucking things behind the camera) is because Lorne Michaels thinks he can put an annoying spaz case in the host’s chair and people will watch!
You think Fuckface Fallon is someone worthy of our attention! You’re in a small minority here!
And that late night camaraderie, you talk about, helped push Biden out of the White House with their BOTH SIDES!!! bullshit! They were a big help in getting Drumpf back in the White House, whether they realized it, or not!
…. You really need to touch grass. I should be transparent that i am not even the biggest Fallon fan either. I won’t excuse his questionable guests and his own choices both past and present, but I’m not gonna go on a never-ending tangent about him sucking when there’s already a plethora of people who’ve made repetitive jabs at his worst moments and it’s just become boring and predictable. Some of the criticism is valid, but you constantly double-downing when this news is supposed to be exciting, but melancholic only makes you a bigger, unhinged joke than the current administration and especially the ones who voted him back.
You really need to log off and spend your time using that energy, rage and tangents for more important issues instead of screaming your anger about society on a goddamn late night news site.
Please get help~
You don’t like it, I don’t fucking care! It is MY right to say whatever the fuck I want here! If you don’t like it that’s your problem, not mine!
Deal with it!
Oh BTW author, you might need to correct the scheduled date in the article; it’s March 5 on a Thursday, NOT March 4 😬👍
Thank you! Fixed…
Fallon in that pic looks like a creepier version than Ezra Miller
I’m so sad just thinking about only three more months of Colbert. It feels like a friend or family member is dying. Damn CBS & their greed & cowardice !!
