Greg Gutfeld fans were none too happy that his late-night styled Fox News show was pre-empted for the cable news network’s live coverage as the sun went down in Los Angeles Monday night.
It’s not clear when the call was made to pre-empt the show, but LateNighter has learned that an episode of the show was taped earlier in the day featuring panelists Andrew Gruel, Dave Landau, Emilt Compagno and Tyrus.
Just four minutes before airtime at 9:56pm ET/6:56pm PT, the show posted to X, “Gutfeld! will not air tonight due to breaking news coverage of the LA riots. For the latest, stay tuned to @FoxNews.”
In place of Gutfeld!, Trace Gallagher anchored a special edition of Fox News at Night live from Los Angeles.
Though Gutfeld himself made no mention of the pre-emption on his own social media, fans quickly took to X to make their displeasure known.
“Damn it, FoxNews,” wrote one viewer. “You could always break out from the show if there was any serious breaking news, but there’s nothing new going on that hasn’t been going on all day. We’d prefer to watch Gutfeld. I am turning the TV off.”
“Because this mess isn’t annoying enough, it must also steal our only quality late night TV,” wrote another.
A Fox News spokesperson tells us that Monday night’s epsode is now scheduled to air tonight.
As regular viewers know, it’s not the first time Gutfeld! has been pre-empted for breaking news coverage. Memorably, the show’s inauguration special—taped Inauguration Day before and audience of nearly 4,000 at Washington DC’s Daughters of the Revolution Hall—was pre-empted for Fox News coverage of President Trump’s inaugural balls. That episode, too, aired a day later.
Fox, you pre-empt the highest rated show on television to show what we have been seeing all day. Your programming department should pull their heads out of their asses and give us our show.
