The Saturday Night Live staff is back at work this week (well, most of them), but they may still be feeling the effects of the SNL50 special—some worse than others.
In a just-released promo for this weekend’s episode hosted by Shane Gillis, a handful of SNL cast members struggle to recover from the celebratory weekend.
“I’m just worried everyone’s going to be hungover still from the 50th,” Gillis tells Ashley Padilla in the promo. He’s quickly proven right as he encounters Michael Longfellow asleep on a couch, Mikey Day wearing Sarah Sherman’s clothes, and a zonked-out Please Don’t Destroy trio, who proceed to get into a spat with the comic. (John Higgins calls Gillis “Louis C-Minus” at one point.)
But the worst case of post-SNL50 fallout goes to Emil Wakim. “Do you guys know a good tattoo removal guy? I think I made a mistake,” the featured player asks, revealing a bold new neck tattoo of Lorne Michaels’ portrait.
“I thought he would like it,” Wakim explains.
“He’s not going to like that,” Gillis replies. “He’s going to fire you.”
Gillis returns to Studio 8H this weekend just one year after his hosting debut. That was famously a full-circle moment for Gillis, who had been hired and swiftly un-hired as an SNL cast member four seasons earlier.
Gillis hosts Saturday Night Live with musical guest Tate McRae this Saturday, March 1st on NBC.
