The Daily Show Takes Two-Week Break, Will Return July 7th—Alone

Viewers tuning into The Daily Show tonight to see Jon Stewart’s take on this weekend’s U.S. strikes on Iran are in for a disappointment.

As of last Thursday, the show is officially on hiatus—beginning a two-week summer break. New episodes are scheduled to resume on Monday, July 7th.

Though The Daily Show is the only nightly late-night show off tonight, the rest of the field will soon follow. The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, Jimmy Kimmel Live!, The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, and Late Night with Seth Meyers are all set to pause production next week as they bookend the July 4th holiday with their own two-week breaks.

That nearly-industry-wide vacation window means that when The Daily Show returns on July 7th, it will be the only traditional late-night show in production that week. (Real Time with Bill Maher aired its last episode in a month this past Friday, and Last Week Tonight with John Oliver is set to start its own summer break after its next episode, airing June 28th.)

It’s not uncommon for late night to go dark around major holidays, and July 4th is traditionally one of the quietest weeks in late-night. Still, with a volatile international news cycle unfolding and plenty of political weirdness here at home, the timing is bound to leave some viewers hungry.

It’s a shame the Orange coprolite is providing so much material for these fantastic shows to comment on. They help us process the difficult stuff that would otherwise simply drag us down.

Thank you for the update! I would have been so sad had I waited all week, hoping to see my favorite show! I don’t watch much TV at all…. just The Daily Show and The British Baking Show. lol Enjoy the time off, that sounds Wonderful and is a great example that everyone needs a break!

The big loss of late night entertainment every summer is when Jimmy Kimmel takes most of the summer off. It’s just not the same with guest hosts.

Thank you for this information. My husband was asking me about my funny guys. I was kinda down as I hadn’t been getting my laughs, plus this is where I get my news. lol

These kids are great and so entertaining. God bless them all. with so much ugliness in our country right now, we need all the laughs we can get. Thank you!

Oh im sorry i thought that a little show called “gutfeld!) that beats ALL of these shows by miles might deserve a mention. But we cant let more people find out about it because its not left wing groupthink i guess.
