Jimmy Fallon’s monologue took to the streets Tuesday night as comedian Mack Hubbell made his Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon debut in a spoof of viral man-on-the-street interviews.
The scripted bit poked fun at the flood of street interview videos on TikTok and Instagram. Roaming a packed Rockefeller Center, Hubbell struggles to find anyone he can talk to—because everyone around him is already hosting an interview show of their own.
Tasked with reporting on “cuffing season,” Hubbell sets out to ask passersby whether they’ve secured a short-term romance for winter. When he approaches one woman for a comment, he discovers he’s actually the subject of her TikTok series about toxic men.
Another person asks him to take part in a New York City quiz, while yet another is seen asking people how much they pay for rent.
Hubbell is no stranger to social media videos himself. The actor, writer, and comic has earned millions of views online for videos in which he plays an “Uber walker” and enthusiastically announces that he’s giving up on life.
Behind the scenes, Hubbell has worked as a monologue writer’s assistant on Fallon’s Tonight Show. Fallon’s correspondent roster has mixed in-house talent with outside comics. Former staff writers Arthur Meyer and Jo Firestone have both taken on recurring segments, while comic Derek Gaines was enlisted from outside the show for a segment last year.
